Ecclesiastes 12:13
"Now all has been heard, here is the conclusion of the matter, Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind."
Solomon was a great and renowned king known for his wisdom. He was God's heart for the nation of Israel. One day, God appeared in his dream and said to him, "Ask for whatever you want me to give you" (1 Kings 3:5). His request pleased God.
God said in 1 Kings 3:12, "I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be." He was also told to abide by the word of God.
Solomon was richly blessed, and people testified of his blessing and wisdom. However, he eventually deviated from God's instruction. He slipped into sin, and instead of fulfillment, he found frustration and fruitlessness.
As a result of his frustration, he came to the knowledge that apart from God, life and riches are meaningless. He wrote in our opening scripture, "Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind." What a counsel!
This morning, I want to encourage you with your relationship with God based on Solomon's advice. His gift made him the target of the enemy until life had no meaning to him. Therefore, make your life meaningful with the word of God, for that is your heritage in Christ Jesus.
