Names are very important on this earth. Thus, God gives a name to everything He created to enable us to identify each one and set it apart. In Genesis, God brought the animals He formed before Adam to see how he could name them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. (Genesis 2:19-20).

Names can have both positive and negative influences on a person depending on the meaning, Jabez’s life was full of pain and disappointment, because his mother named him Jabez, saying, ‘I gave birth to him in pain, and he cried unto God for change and the Lord answer him. 1 Chronicle 4:9-10

Naomi’s two sons’ name was Mahlon meaning "sickness" and Chilion "wasting" Therefore as he called them, he is inviting sickness that will waste their life until they all died and left their wives Ruth1:1-4. I quite remember the one I was named after like sweet things that influence me, till I prayed and broke it out of my life.

The Bible says the Lord changed Abram's name to Abraham and Sarai's name to Sarah. To affect his covenant with them and also program their mind as a couple with a multitude of children yet none. God did not change their name because of who they are, but what He knew they would become.
